A lifesaving defibrillator has been bought by Beckenham Hearing to provide rapid support to people in cardiac arrest.
Neil Daniel, Senior Audiologist and Owner of Beckenham Hearing, purchased the Automatic external defibrillator or AED after the team attended a first aid course where they learned about the machine’s importance and how they can be the difference between life and death.
The equipment has been installed inside our Eden Park practice on Upper Elmers End Road, where it can be used if needed in an emergency by the public. Staff at Beckenham Hearing have been trained to use the defibrillator if their help is ever required.
Neil Daniel said:
“After our team attended the first aid course, we were inspired to purchase one these incredible pieces of kit. We felt it only right to support our community by purchasing the defibrillator for our practice.
“Defibrillators are one of those things that, hopefully, we never have to use, but having them here gives us the ability to respond very quickly if we have to.
“We really want to raise awareness about the defibrillators, letting people know that we have equipment that genuinely could save lives.”
Defibrillators give a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone in cardiac arrest. This is an essential part in trying to save the life of a person in cardiac arrest.
According to the British Heart Foundation, less than one in 10 UK people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This is mainly due to there being not enough people prepared to perform CPR and there not being a defibrillator nearby.
Our new defibrillator can be found at 531 Upper Elmers End Road, close to Eden Park Rail Station. The practice is open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm.
