A Commitment to Community Safety

A lifesaving defibrillator has been bought by Beckenham Hearing to provide rapid support to people in cardiac arrest.

As the owner of Beckenham Hearing, I decided to purchase an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) after my team and I attended a first aid course where we learned about the machine’s importance and how it can be the difference between life and death.

The equipment has been installed inside the Eden Park practice on Upper Elmers End Road, where it can be used by the public in an emergency. Staff at Beckenham Hearing have been trained to use the defibrillator should their help ever be required.

Why This Matters

After our team attended the first aid course, we were inspired to purchase one of these incredible pieces of kit. We felt it only right to support our community by purchasing the defibrillator for our practice.

Defibrillators are one of those things that, hopefully, we never have to use, but having them here gives us the ability to respond very quickly if we have to.

We really want to raise awareness about the defibrillators, letting people know that we have equipment that genuinely could save lives.

The Importance of Quick Action

Defibrillators give a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone in cardiac arrest. This is an essential step in trying to save a person’s life.

According to the British Heart Foundation, less than one in ten people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This is mainly due to a lack of people prepared to perform CPR and the limited availability of defibrillators nearby.

Where to Find the Defibrillator

The new defibrillator can be found at Beckenham Hearing, 531 Upper Elmers End Road, close to Eden Park Rail Station. The practice is open Monday to Saturday, 9am–5pm.

Originally trained in micro-electronics engineering, he began his career designing stereo equipment and mixing decks before transitioning into hearing aid technology — a move that sparked a lifelong passion. Over the past 30 years, Neil has worked with leading global hearing aid manufacturers, supporting audiologists with complex fittings and technical challenges.
