Tips and news to support your hearing health.

Spring is officially here, and for many people, it’s the perfect time to give your hearing aids a thorough spring clean. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure your hearing aids continue to perform at their best.

Even though hearing aids are durable and built to withstand everyday use, keeping them clean helps maintain sound quality and prolong their lifespan. Here are our top tips for cleaning your hearing aids this season:

Custom Hearing Aids (ITE, ITC, CIC, IIC)

Wipe down your hearing aids with a soft cloth, tissue, or designated hearing aid wipes or disinfecting spray. Locate the microphone and speaker ports. Some hearing aids have two microphone ports, while the speaker port is often covered with a white wax filter. Use a small brush over the microphone and speaker ports to remove any loose wax or debris. Use a wax pick to gently clear out the microphone or speaker port. Avoid inserting anything too deep, as this can damage the internal components. Replace the wax filter if needed. Locate the vent (an opening that allows air to pass through the hearing aid) and use a vent cleaner to clear it.

Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids

Wipe down your hearing aids and earmould or dome with a cloth, tissue, or hearing aid wipes or disinfecting spray. Locate the microphone ports, noting that some devices have two. Use a brush over the microphone ports to remove any loose wax or debris. Use a wax pick to clean the holes at the tip of the earmould or dome.

Receiver-in-the-Ear (RIC) Hearing Aids

Wipe down your hearing aids and earmould or dome with a cloth, tissue, or designated hearing aid wipes or disinfecting spray. Locate and clean the microphone ports with a brush to remove any debris. Use a wax pick to clear out the holes at the tip of the earmould or dome. Do not insert anything deep into the speaker port, as this may damage the components. Replace the wax filter if necessary.
