How long do hearing aids last

If you are considering getting hearing aids, or have recently been fitted, a question you are probably asking is,

‘How long will my hearing aids last?’

Hearing aids are a significant investment, so you want to be sure you are getting the best out of them for as long as possible.

However, there is, unfortunately, no simple, straightforward answer to how long your hearing aids will last, as it is dependent on a variety of factors. Just like any technological device, your hearing aids will wear and become outdated over the years.

To give you an idea, generally speaking, hearing aids can last anything between 3-7 years.

However, this is dependent upon a variety of factors including

the brand and style,

how well you look after your hearing aids

,

how often and where you wear your hearing aids

and your body’s physiology.

Aside from these factors, technological advancements mean that after five years, we would consider a top of the range model would be basic in comparison to newer devices on the market.

Just as you change your phone or computer every few years, if you want optimal performance and the newest technology, it will be necessary to change your hearing aids every few years.

However, if these considerations are not of importance to you and you look after your hearing aids properly, it is quite possible your device could last much longer.

Just bear in mind that when newer models release, your older model may become obsolete.

For this reason, repairing them, if they become damaged, may become difficult.

Another thing to consider is that your hearing aids can be like a comfy pair of shoes. If you keep them for too long and your model of the hearing aid becomes obsolete, a larger leap in technology performance can take longer to get used to, even though their performance will be greatly improved.
